Ankle Pain Treatment in Kangaroo Point, Brisbane
Ankle sprains and ongoing ankle pain can limit walking, running and sport. At Osteoworks, we assess the ankle together with your foot, knee and hip, so treatment addresses why it hurt and what keeps it from settling.
Common causes of ankle pain
- Ligament sprains — the classic "rolled ankle", most often on the outside of the joint, ranging from a mild stretch to a significant tear.
- Repeated sprains and instability — ankles that keep "going over" after an old injury never fully regained strength or balance.
- Tendon pain — including the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle, often flaring with a sudden increase in activity.
- Stiffness after an old fracture or arthritis — a joint that no longer moves smoothly can overload surrounding areas.
How our osteopaths assess your ankle
Your first appointment starts with a proper case history: how it happened, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to get back to. We then assess how your ankle, foot, knee and hip move together, test the joint's stability, and screen for anything that needs medical care first, such as a suspected fracture.
What treatment involves
Treatment is hands-on and adapted to your injury and comfort. Depending on what we find, it may include gentle joint mobilisation, soft tissue work around the calf and foot, and progressive exercises for balance, strength and confidence on the ankle. We'll also talk through sensible activity changes between appointments, so you can stay as active as possible while you recover.
When to see a doctor first
Seek medical care promptly if you can't bear weight at all, the ankle is badly swollen or bruised, the joint looks out of shape, or you feel numbness. Where a fracture or significant ligament tear is suspected, we'll refer you for imaging and work alongside your GP.
