Question 1

What does an osteopath do?

Accepted Answer

An osteopath is a university-trained healthcare professional who treats musculoskeletal conditions using hands-on techniques including soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, stretching, and manipulation. At Osteoworks in Brisbane, our osteopaths assess your whole body — not just where it hurts — to identify and treat the root cause of your pain, rather than just masking symptoms.

Question 2

Is osteopathy covered by Medicare in Australia?

Accepted Answer

Osteopathy is not generally covered by Medicare unless you have a Chronic Disease Management plan (formerly Enhanced Primary Care plan) referred by your GP. However, most private health funds in Australia cover osteopathy under their extras cover. Osteoworks has HICAPS on-site, so you can claim your health fund rebate instantly at our Kangaroo Point clinic.

Question 3

How much does an osteopath cost in Brisbane?

Accepted Answer

Initial osteopathy consultations at Osteoworks in Kangaroo Point include a thorough assessment, diagnosis, and hands-on treatment. We offer competitive pricing for Brisbane osteopath services. Contact our team on (07) 3217 3131 for current fees, or book a free 15-minute phone consult to discuss your needs first.

Question 4

What's the difference between an osteopath and a physiotherapist?

Accepted Answer

While both treat musculoskeletal conditions, osteopaths take a holistic whole body approach — looking at how all parts of your body interact and contribute to your pain. Physiotherapists typically focus more on the specific injured area with exercise-based rehabilitation. Osteopaths use more hands-on manual therapy techniques in each session. At Osteoworks, we combine both approaches for the best outcomes.

Question 5

Do I need a referral to see an osteopath in Brisbane?

Accepted Answer

No, you do not need a referral to see an osteopath in Brisbane. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, meaning you can book an appointment directly. However, if you have a Chronic Disease Management plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates. You can book an appointment online or call (07) 3217 3131.

Question 6

What conditions do osteopaths treat?

Accepted Answer

Osteopaths treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including lower back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, hip pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, sports injuries, tendonitis, arthritis, work-related repetitive strain injuries, and posture-related pain. At Osteoworks Brisbane, we focus on finding the root cause and creating a personalised treatment plan.

Question 7

How long is an osteopath appointment?

Accepted Answer

At Osteoworks, all appointments are a minimum of 30 minutes, one-on-one with your osteopath. We don't rush appointments or treat multiple patients at the same time. This allows us to properly assess, treat, and discuss your progress and next steps in every session.

Question 8

Is osteopathy safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes, osteopathy is widely recognised as a safe form of manual therapy. Osteopaths in Australia complete a minimum of 5 years of university training and must be registered with the Osteopathy Board of Australia. Treatment techniques are adapted to each patient's condition, age, and health status. At Osteoworks, we thoroughly assess your condition before any treatment begins.
